Ocean Heroes Limited

Ocean Heroes is a West Australian based not-for-profit that aims to provide everyone on the autism spectrum the opportunity to go surfing. We believe surfing is a vehicle to help discover and demonstrate the potential of those on the autism spectrum. Ocean Heroes brings together the autism and surfing communities, creating a fun and inclusive environment for the participants, their families, and volunteers.

Ocean Heroes runs year-round national free events for the autism community, providing a unique -one-on-one surfing experience like no other. We pair each participant up with an experienced and caring volunteer, and go out into the surf to enjoy the natural benefits of surf therapy.

Ocean Heroes events improve the overall wellbeing of the participants and their families. An independent study by Huber Social. published April 2020, found that Ocean Heroes events have a positive impact on priority needs for children on the Autism Spectrum. These included specific benefits such as feeling calm, having fun, improving self-esteem and providing hope. Similarly, the events had a positive impact on the families of our participants by improving priority needs such as improving child's behaviour, better emotional regulation, stronger relationships with loved ones and hope for their child's future. Ocean Heroes will aim to return to the Esperance community annually, building the relationship between the autism community and those who may not have the opportunity.
